Waiting for the Cat

The moment you arrive I feel it
Show you the door
When I see your backbone receding
I want you just a little bit more
Thought I had a noose around my neck
Thought I had shoes made of stone
It's four in the morning and I’m wide-awake, yawning
Waiting for the cat to come home

I don’t know where she goes to
Not sure if she’s coming back
Maybe there’s a tiger in her tank
Maybe she runs with the pack
I don’t know how lucky I am
Always something more
She pounced while I cat-napped
Impaled on the tip of her claw

Last night’s dinner’s congealed on the wall
Breakfast’s in a bowl on the floor
Every sound’s a key - turning the night
Burning a hole in the door
Grass is always greener
Easier to be alone
Next-door’s dog is just a little bit meaner
Waiting for the cat to come home

I don’t know where she comes from
Not sure if she’s under attack
Maybe there’s a goldfish in her bowl
Maybe there’s a monkey on her back
I don’t know how lucky I am
Not sure if I even care
All I know is I spend each night
Wide awake on this kitchen chair

I like a lot of cats on my hot tin
I’m never satisfied
Keeps me grinning like some Cheshire lunatic
Categorically denied
I think I’ll fly to Paris
Think I’m going to fly to Rome
I’d rather fly to Kathmandu, man
I’m waiting for the cat to come home

I’d like to say what I really feel
But something’s got my tongue
Catatonic me, catastrophic you
Something went wrong
Grass is always longer
Easier to be alone
Everything I do is just a little bit wronger
Waiting for the cat to come home
Waiting for the cat to come home
Waiting for the cat to come
Waiting for the cat to come… Home

Blue Windows Melbourne, Australia

Blue Windows is an original indie modern folk band based in Melbourne and Geelong region.

We play modern folk, spiced up with a dash of blues & roots, a teaspoon of country and a drizzle of jazz.

We write and play our own songs with re-imaginings of a few of our favourite songs with a refreshing Blue Windows twist.

We love playing at festivals, wineries, weddings and music venues.
